There, I said it. I don’t believe in cheat meals. As you’re working to improve your health habits, you’ll start to hear the phrase often.. cheat meal. It’s when you indulge in that one thing you’ve been wanting so bad, but know it doesn’t fit in with your current “diet”.
Are you a fitness model? Training for a competition? Wonder woman? Yeah, me neither.
I’m just an average woman trying to improve my nutrition and eat better so I can live a healthier life. And as much as that takes dedication, it also takes a certain amount of realism. Do you really think you could stick to a healthier lifestyle if you didn’t slowly transition into it? If you didn’t take it one step at a time and let yourself indulge just a bit, so you didn’t go overboard once the cravings really set in?
For me, time is what’s kept me on track. Giving myself a day, a week, a month – to tackle the next change in my diet. And it’s the positive thoughts that’s kept me in line.
Unfortunately, “cheat meal” implies that you are doing something wrong, don’t you think? Personally, I love my ice cream (as you know!), a fancy drink, or even a really unhealthy slice of pizza from time to time! And you know what? That’s ok! Because I don’t have it every day, or even every week.
A healthy lifestyle is about moderation. And it’s one of the most important things you can learn along the way.
